What is Punjabi Pinni?

Pinni is a very delicious and filling winter sweet dish which you can commonly find in Punjab. This little delicacy was actually originated in Punjab and is now famous in almost all the regions of North India. You will find them in shape of balls or in a cylindrical shape. Another name for these pinnis are atta pinni. We make these from whole wheat flour (atta) and some dry fruits such as almonds, raisins and cashew nuts. Pinni ladoo is a very healthy dessert which is perfect to satisfy your sweet cravings and your energy levels. It's a traditional recipe of India. You can make it on any special occasion and festival such as diwali or lohri. And you can definitely eat pinni as a sweet dish after a meal. Some people call it panjiri too. Try it with a glass of warm milk in the morning or in the evening to boost up your energy. Elders always recommend to eat at least one ladoo daily to keep up with health. Pinni is known to generate heat in the body which is very good for winters. It helps in soothing sore muscles and reduce body aches. Recipe Ingredients

First of all, check if you have all the necessary ingredients for this recipe. Pay attention to the quantities!
  • Wheat Flour (Aata) :- 1 ½ cup
  • Pure Ghee (Clarified butter) :- 1 cup
  • Powdered Sugar (Bura) :- 1 cup
  • Almonds :- 10 sliced
  • Cashew Nuts :- 10 sliced
  • Raisins :- 10

Recipe Instructions

Next, follow the steps to finalize your dish and finally be able to enjoy it!
  1. For the first step, heat pure ghee in a kadhai. Add the wheat flour and saute it on low flame till it turns light brown in color or gives a lovely fragrance.

  2. Turn off the flame and rest it for about 15 minutes. Now, add the sliced or chopped 10-12 almonds and 10-12 cashew nuts.

  3. Also add in some 10-12 raisins and powdered sugar. Mix it all well and make the shape of pinni. You can give it any shape you want like round or disk shape.

  4. Here I have made a cylindrical shape. The pinnis are ready. You can eat it anytime you want. Garnish them with whole or sliced almonds and serve them to your family and loved ones.
